Essential Utilities Inc has split its stock 8 times since its initial public offering (IPO). The first stock split occurred on September 03, 1986 with the ratio of 3-for-2, meaning that for 2 shares of WTRG owned pre-split, shareholders then owned 3 shares. 7 more splits have been implemented since then. The most recent stock split took place on September 03, 2013 on a 5-for-4 basis.
These splits have increased WTRG stock's liquidity and made it more appealing to a larger group of investors. However, it's important to remember that these actions only change the number of shares and the price per share with no impact on Essential Utilities Inc's total market capitalization.

The answer will depend on the decisions of the company's managers and market volatility. Essential Utilities Inc has not made an official announcement regarding whether it will enact a stock split or reverse stock split, but it has a history of doing so when WTRG stock prices become too high or too low for retail investors. Therefore, the ultimate decisions will certainly be made by Essential Utilities Inc's board of directors. Typically, no action is taken until its price per share reaches a specific threshold.
