Shares of Citizen Financial Group (CFG) dropped by 5.57% from $27.10 to $25.59 in the trading on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. The reason why CFG stock down is due to its disappointing Q3 earnings:

CFG reported earnings per share of 85 cents, falling short of the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 92 cents and declining from $1.23 in the same quarter the previous year. The results were adversely impacted by lower net interest income, an increase in provisions, and rising operating expenses. Non-interest income also declined in the quarter.
Net income came in at $430 million, down 32.4% from the prior-year quarter. Revenues for the quarter were $2.01 billion, missing the consensus estimate and decreasing by 7.5% year over year.
Additionally, credit quality worsened as provisions for credit losses increased, and net charge-offs jumped.
